Last Friday Angela and I performed at Trinity Terrace Retirement Community and nursing home. I am here to tell you that performing for elderly people is wonderful, especially the retirement community.
One woman came up to us and told us she'd been to Egypt 8 times and when she found out neither of us had ever been, she insisted we get there as soon as we can. As it turns out she's the oldest resident in the building at 101. Wowie! I hope I am that fabulous when I'm older.
The nursing home residents were pretty great as well though not nearly as responsive. We still had to take pictures with 3 of the residents. They were very sweet to us!
This was one of the best audiences we've had. Every where we looked there were smiling faces. Trinity Terrace is also the nicest retirement community/ nursing home I've seen to date. I might have to get on the list there.
Old folks are cool!

Tue, March 28, 2006 - 6:26 PMActually, a retirement home I did with Isis was my favorite gig of all time, too!! :o) I can't wait to be an old lady! I've already started my tacky pink flamingo collection! And, won't it be great to say exactly what's on your mind without regard to anyone or anything else!?!? Ahh.. the freedom! :o)
So, glad y'all had such a cool experience! Sounds like you should DEFINITELY get on their list!! You never know who you will touch! :o) Besides, I'll bet that 101-yr. old lady has TONS of cool stories to tell!! ;o)

Re: Rockin' the Old Folks
Sat, April 1, 2006 - 3:09 PMI hadn't even thought of that! What a wonderful thought. I will tell you that those elders really appreciate us. These are the folks who raised us and took care of us so it's good to do something nice for them once in a while.

Re: Rockin' the Old Folks
Sun, April 2, 2006 - 3:19 PMMy one and only retirement home experience was not so grand. Think tribal style 6-ish years ago (turbans, heavy make-up, tattoos and zilling like there's no tomorrow). I think we were a little too freakish for them and possibly our big clacker zills hurt their ears. A few clapped and looked interested, most looked like they had to sit through this performance to get a cookie or waste some time.
All these good stories make me want to try again with a little more consideration of who the audience is that we are performing for. -

Re: Rockin' the Old Folks
Sun, April 2, 2006 - 5:03 PMSometimes it's like that. Sometimes the audience is more awake. If bingo is on the schedule after you they're probably waiting for that so don't take it personally.
